SCHOOL TOURS
A field trip to the Lynde House Museum is like stepping back in time to rural life in the 19th century. The field trip targets Grade 3 students with a living history experience, promoting critical thinking and inquiry skills. Students will compare the similarities and differences between everyday life in the 19th century and the present day, identify the challenges of rural life in Upper Canada, and recognize some of the major challenges facing communities in Canada during this time .
The program includes a specialized in-person guided tour of the of Lynde House, with interactive small group and hands-on activities. Students will get to work with authentic artifacts from the period and glean a sense of what life would be like for someone their age in the 1800s. The program is designed to meet the Ontario Grade Three Curriculum expectations. Our staff and volunteers are trained and enthusiastic to share knowledge about the history and heritage that encompasses the Lynde House Museum, Warren General Store and Whitby.
